Jason Weber, Chief, Fire Department
The Marin County Fire Department serves its community in the “All-Hazards” environment by participating in the Marin County Hazardous Materials Response Team, the Marin County Urban Search and Rescue Team and the Marin County Water Rescue Team.
The Marin County Water Rescue operates as a component of the US&R Team. The Water Rescue Team is classified as a Type I Swiftwater/Flood Search and Rescue Team (SF S&R) and is designated as CA SF S&R Team 11.
The County's Urban Search and Rescue Team (US&R) is a specialized team composed of both Fire Department and Public Works Department employees which is dispatched by Local, State or Federal authorities after an event has occurred.
Hazardous Materials
The Marin County Hazardous Materials Response Team (HMRT) is a joint-powers authority team which responds to significant hazardous materials incidents, isolates and denies entry to non-equipped personnel, evacuates injured parties, identifies the materials and assists with the removal of the materials.
This type of special operation is normally encountered by members of the Urban Search and Rescue team in situations that are immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH) such as mines and vaults.
