Fire Prevention and Investigation
The Marin County Fire Department Prevention Bureau, supervised by the Fire Marshal, is charged with minimizing or preventing damage to life and assets as a result of fire. In order to accomplish this mission, the Fire Prevention Bureau develops amendments to the model fire codes and fire prevention standards, as well as enforcing the fire safety and law enforcement sections of the fire code and Public Resources Code (PRC).
In addition, the Fire Prevention Bureau manages the Residential Wildfire Hazard Reduction and the Business Inspection Programs, conducts fire investigation, fire and life safety programs in the MCFD direct protection areas, and reviews land development and building plans as part of the issuance of fire permits.
The Fire Prevention Bureau is also responsible for the investigation of the cause and origin of all fires MCFD’s jurisdiction, as well as in the Bolinas Fire District, Inverness Public Utilities District and the Stinson Beach Volunteer Fire Department.
