Aramburu Island

Aramburu Island was created in the early 1960s by dumped dredge spoils and fill from nearby development. After years of work, Richardson Bay Audubon and its partners, including Marin County Parks, successfully improved aquatic, wetland, and upland habitats here for a range of local species, stabilized the rapidly eroding eastern shoreline, and helped the island and surrounding communities become more resilient to sea level rise. The best way to visit Aramburu Island is by joining a volunteer workday. Volunteer workdays are fun, educational, and open to the public. Help plant native vegetation, remove invasive species, maintain irrigation systems, and take part in citizen science monitoring at Aramburu Island. Check the calendar for dates.

Because it is a nature reserve, access to Aramburu is restricted. It is only accessible by boat. The best way to visit Aramburu is to participate in a volunteer workday. Check the calendar for upcoming events.

From Hwy 101 in Mill Valley, take the exit for Tiburon Blvd (Hwy 131). Take Tiburon Blvd east for 1 mile. Turn right onto Greenwood Cove Dr. Greenwood Cove becomes Greenwood Beach Rd.

Volunteer parking is in gravel pullouts on the right side of Greenwood Beach Road.

• No dogs allowed on Aramburu Island.
• Keep the island clean and litter-free. Carry out all your belongings.
• Loud noise and amplified music are not allowed.
• No smoking, no fires.
• No alcoholic beverages.
• No camping or overnight parking.
• No firearms or weapons of any kind.
• No operating or landing aircraft of any kind, including drones.
• Motorized vehicles are not allowed, except Power-Driven Mobility Devices (OPDMD) per Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
• Some park locations may require permits for commercial use, including tours, classes, camps, film, or photography. Learn about permit applications.
• Permit required for groups of 20 or more people.
• Do not approach, follow, or feed wildlife.
