McNears Beach Pier gets much needed repairs.
UPDATED: MARCH 15, 2018
Project Description
During a 2008 storm, a large barge broke its mooring and collided with McNears pier, damaging about half the structure. Insurance covered the cost of the accident damage, but subsequent inspections showed additional erosion of the pier's foundation due to aging. When Measure A funds became available, Parks moved forward with the plan to completely repair cracking support beams and exposed, rusting rebar. The end result is a safer, more seismically sound pier for anglers and visitors to enjoy.
Because the pier sits on state land, and extends into the Bay, this project required coordination with and authorization from several state and federal agencies. The County's operating agreement with the state also required that the pier remain open to the public during construction.
