San Rafael, CA – In a routine step to ensure voting accuracy, the Marin County Elections Department will start its manual tally of the November 7 Local District Election on November 20.
Following California Elections Code §15360, Marin County’s Elections Department official will randomly select at least one percent of the ballots cast at the polls and by mail. The random selection of ballots will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday, November 20, in the Elections Department, located in Suite 121 of the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael.
The manual tally of the ballots selected will begin immediately thereafter, and is a public process. Registrar Lynda Roberts said the process is done to verify the automated vote count and ensure election accuracy. “It’s a good practice to build trust in the democratic process,” she said.
Roberts anticipates certifying the election prior to Thanksgiving.
Staff is continuing to tally provisional ballots and expects at least one more update this week.
